NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced The Bowerman Award Mid-Season Watch List on Wednesday, and redshirt junior Maggie Ewen is the first Sun Devil woman to make the watch list since Anna Jelmini in March of 2014.
With four-straight First-Team All-American honors dating back to the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Ewen continues to raise the bar in 2017. Several weeks remaining in the regular season, and Ewen currently holds the country's top hammer throw mark -- by over 15 feet nonetheless -- the second-best discus throw, and seventh-best shot put mark.
Her hammer throw mark set at the Baldy Castillo Invitational in early March is not only a personal best, but is the American collegiate record and second-furthest throw in outdoor collegiate history at 72.71m (238-6).
The St. Francis, Minnesota-native has already earned USTFCCCA Women's Division I Athlete of the Week honors as well as two Pac-12 Field Athlete of the Week honors so far this season.
She is listed on The Bowerman Mid-Season Watch List along with five other Pac-12 women and a total of 10 female student-athletes.
